Unaccompanied Asylum Seekers (UASC)
Safety & Comfortability
What is the difference between an asylum seeker and a refugee?
‘Asylum seeker’ means a person who has applied for asylum under the 1951 Refugee Convention on the Status of Refugees on the grounds that they have a well-founded fear of persecution should they return to their home country.
‘Refugee’ means an asylum seeker whose claim has been successful.
Asylum support, including accommodation, is provided to asylum seekers who do not have any other way of supporting themselves.
Arise Teen and Adult Support Services works with unaccompanied asylum seekers and recognises the importance of making the young asylum seekers feel safe and comfortable within their environment by referring them to services and organisations that offer support for refugees and asylum seekers.
